The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is building the future of sustainable lumber with next-generation sawmill technology. We design and operate state-of-the-art modular sawmills that produce high-grade dimensional wood products with greater efficiency and less waste. Backed by leading investors including Cantos, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, Banter Capital, Humba Ventures, and Ravelin Capital.
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Manager with at least 8 years of industry experience, including proven leadership in a Superintendent role. The ideal candidate excels at coordinating field operations, managing subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong communication, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple project phases simultaneously.
This role is based in the southeastern United States, with a preference for candidates in the greater Tupelo, MS area. The role requires full-time on-site presence at current and future TLM mill sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Management & Technical Oversight
Thoroughly interpret architectural drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and structural details to ensure all work aligns with design intent.
Identify discrepancies in plans and coordinate timely resolution with architects, engineers, and internal teams.
Oversee procurement of materials, equipment, and long‑lead items; anticipate supply chain needs to avoid delays.
Evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals, scopes of work, and performance to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
Ensure proper installation methods and construction standards are upheld across all trades.
Vendor, Subcontractor, & Stakeholder Coordination
Build strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors; maintain clear, consistent communication.
Develop, review, and enforce subcontractor scopes, schedules, and deliverables.
Manage vendor performance, resolve field issues, and ensure work meets project requirements and quality standards.
Facilitate coordination between trades to prevent conflicts, sequencing delays, or rework.
Planning, Scheduling, & Execution
Create, maintain, and adjust project schedules, identifying critical path activities and potential roadblocks.
Plan daily and weekly field activities, ensuring labor, materials, and equipment are available as needed.
Lead pre-construction planning, including logistics, site setup, and procurement timelines.
Budget, Cost Control & Documentation
Support cost tracking, forecasting, and budget management throughout the project lifecycle.
Review and process subcontractor change orders, RFIs, submittals, and daily field reports.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation to ensure transparency and accountability.
Safety & Compliance
Uphold all OSHA and company safety standards; enforce safe work practices across all site activities.
Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
Identify potential hazards and proactively implement corrective actions.
Quality Assurance & Field Inspections
Perform regular inspections to verify craftsmanship, adherence to specs, and compliance with contract documents.
Address quality issues promptly to prevent downstream impacts on cost or schedule.
Manage punch lists, testing processes, and project closeout documentation.
Qualifications:
8+ years of construction industry experience, including prior experience as a Superintendent.
Expert ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, methods, building codes, and materials.
Demonstrated experience managing vendors, subcontractors, and procurement workflows.
Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, MS Project).
Excellent communication, leadership, and decision‑making skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to project sites.
Work Environment:
On-site presence, including movement around active construction areas.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand, walk, climb, or operate equipment as needed.

The applicable annual base salary paid to a successful applicant will be determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to the nature and extent of prior experience and educational background.
