About Remedy

Remedy is a startup committed to addressing the planet’s enormous challenge of environmentally contaminated land. Our mission is to build massively scalable, automated soil remediation solutions to return contaminated land to productive use. We do this by developing and deploying novel hardware and software tools to streamline investigation, remediation, reporting, and management of contaminated sites. Unlike other firms, Remedy controls the entire process, from site identification to redevelopment entitlement and hand-off to a developer.

Position Summary

We are seeking a mid- to senior-level California-Licensed Civil Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer or an Engineering Geologist to lead environmental investigations and remedial engineering of former commercial and industrial sites. Engineering design may involve collaboration with developers or builders to prepare sites for future infrastructure and construction. Position duties will include site investigation planning and execution, data analysis and reporting, feasibility alternative development, and remedial action planning and execution. Additionally, as needed, the position will develop regulatory agency and client/business partner relationships from early due diligence through design and construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop investigation scopes, budgets, schedules, and field plans, and coordinate drilling firms, laboratories, surveyors, specialty contractors, and Remedy field teams.

  • Direct field and laboratory testing, review data quality, and translate findings into clear engineering parameters and design recommendations.

  • Perform geotechnical analyses and numerical modeling for settlement, bearing capacity, shallow and deep foundations, liquefaction, lateral earth pressures, seismic response, and ground improvement.

  • Prepare calculations, geotechnical reports, design criteria, specifications, and recommendations suitable for permitting, design, entitlement, and construction.

  • Provide construction-phase support, including subgrade and foundation observations, fill and compaction review, and responses to field conditions and technical questions.

  • Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to clients and multidisciplinary teams, and support proposal development and ongoing client relationships.

  • Advise Remedy leadership on costs/timelines of potential investment opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible geotechnical engineering experience, including field investigation, analysis, design recommendations, and reporting.

  • Active California Civil Engineer license (PE) in good standing.

  • California Geotechnical Engineer (GE) title authority in good standing.

  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training

  • Demonstrated experience supporting industrial buildings, foundations, earthwork, and related site-development work.

  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead field work and explain engineering decisions to clients and project teams.

Additional Consideration Given For:

  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field.

  • Experience with Bay Area seismic hazards, soft soils, liquefaction, and ground-improvement design.

  • Experience with contaminated or brownfield sites and multidisciplinary remediation projects.

Skills/Tools

  • Comfort with both office-based engineering and hands-on field investigation and construction support.

  • Organized, collaborative, and able to manage priorities across multiple projects in a fast-moving startup environment.

  • Familiarity with in-situ and remote geophysical testing tools, e.g. cone penetration testing, stiffness and shear testing tools, load bearing and soil compressibility tests, electrical resistivity tools, and seismic/surface wave tools.

  • Familiarity with environmental testing tools, e.g. photoionization detector, laser-induced fluorescence, membrane interface probes, and x-ray fluorescence.

Team

  • In-office in Oakland, with project-site travel.
