About The Role
As the Manager for Device Automation, you will lead a small to medium-sized team of Software Developers to enhance automation coverage and promote the use of automation across our engineering teams. You will be key in defining and driving our automation strategy, collaborating with QA, Dev Infra, and multiple firmware and application development groups. Your role will be a mix of hands-on technical leadership and team management, aimed at fostering a high-performing, innovative team culture.
What You Might Do
- Lead and mentor a team of Software Developers to drive automation initiatives.
- Foster innovation and develop new approaches for implementing test automation in non-deterministic systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Dev Infra, and Firmware/Application Development teams to ensure automation is seamlessly integrated and prioritized.
- Conduct code reviews and participate in architectural discussions to uphold quality and maintain high standards for automation frameworks and test coverage.
- Guide the team in prioritizing automation efforts based on cross-functional input, balancing strategic automation needs with practical implementation goals.
- Plan and execute on strategic objectives, such as increasing automation coverage for the regression test plan, improving automation resiliency, and enhancing processes to quickly triage and fix automation in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of management experience, preferably in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Strong technical background with 5+ years of experience in software engineering and test automation.
- Hands-on coding experience, particularly in Python and Java, with the ability to contribute technically when necessary.
- Agility and adaptability to navigate changes late in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Proven experience in mentoring junior engineers and planning for intern programs.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with automated testing of native Android, iOS, and Web apps.
- Strong background in designing and building build/release/test systems.
- Experience managing cross-functional relationships and effectively collaborating with diverse engineering teams.
- Knowledge of continuous integration pipeline tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI.
- Familiarity with backend service development and frontend applications (both web and mobile).
Salary Range: $185,000-$230,000
