Castelion
About Castelion
Castelion is redefining defense development through rapid iteration, aggressive testing, and modern commercial manufacturing at scale. We design, build, and test next-generation long-range strike weapon systems to give the United States and its Allies a decisive advantage and deter future conflicts.
Position Overview
As a PCB Librarian, you will own the management, curation, and quality of Castelion's PCB component libraries and associated design data. You will ensure that schematic symbols, footprints, and part metadata are accurate, compliant, and ready for integration into complex avionics systems. This role partners closely with PCB layout, electrical, and manufacturing teams to enable rapid, reliable, and high-quality hardware development across analog, digital, RF, and power domains.
You will be expected to drive standardization, enforce best practices, and maintain library integrity, enabling engineering teams to efficiently deliver flight-ready PCBs on aggressive schedules.
Responsibilities
- Own the creation, maintenance, and standardization of PCB component libraries (symbols, footprints, 3D models, and metadata) for avionics hardware.
- Ensure libraries are accurate, manufacturable, and compliant with IPC Class 3/3A and Castelion internal standards.
- Collaborate with PCB layout and electrical engineers to translate schematic intent into reliable, reusable library components.
- Maintain and version-control library data, ensuring proper documentation and traceability for production release.
- Interface with vendors to confirm part specifications, availability, and manufacturability.
- Review new component requests and validate footprints, 3D models, and pin assignments.
- Support high-density, multi-layer PCB designs through accurate component representation and layout constraints.
- Enable rapid iteration cycles by providing verified, production-ready library components for design re-spins.
- Mentor junior engineers on library best practices, IPC standards, and DFM considerations.
- Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure library and design alignment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Castelion's PCB library standards, processes, and tools.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in PCB design, component management, or electronics hardware development.
- Strong proficiency in Altium (preferred) or equivalent professional PCB design tools.
- Experience managing component libraries, including symbols, footprints, 3D models, and metadata.
- Solid understanding of high-density, multi-layer PCB design practices.
- Familiarity with signal integrity, power distribution, grounding, EMI/EMC, and thermal considerations.
- Knowledge of PCB fabrication, assembly processes, materials, and manufacturing constraints.
- Experience supporting IPC Class 3 / 3A designs.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ownership mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams and communicate across disciplines.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in aerospace, missile systems, spaceflight, defense, or other high-reliability environments.
- Familiarity with boards containing microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, ASICs, high-speed interfaces, RF/mixed-signal circuits, or power management.
- Experience supporting EMI/EMC mitigation through library and layout techniques.
- Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DO-254).
- Familiarity with signal and power integrity tools (e.g., SiWave, HFSS, ADS, CST).
- Experience supporting hardware through environmental testing and qualification.
- Ability to mentor engineers and elevate overall library and design quality.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to support extended hours or weekend work during critical integration, test, and flight milestones.
Leadership Qualities
- Bias to Action and Creative Problem Solving. Desire and experience questioning assumptions in ways that lead to break through ideas that are ultimately implemented. Successfully bring in applicable processes/concepts/materials from other industries to achieve efficiency gains. Ability to personally resolve minor issues in development without requiring significant support.
- High Commitment, High Initiative. A successful candidate will have a genuine passion for Castelion's mission and consistently look for ways to contribute to the company's technical goals and prevent hardware blockers. Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere. Strong sense of accountability and integrity.
- Clear Communicator. Proactively communicates blockers. Trusted in previous roles to be voice of company with regulators, suppliers, gate keepers and customers. Capable of tactfully managing relationships with stakeholders to achieve company-desired outcomes without compromising relationships. Emails, IMs and verbal interactions are logical, drive clarity, and detailed enough to eliminate ambiguity.
ITAR Requirements
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
