Senior Electrical Engineer
Atomos Space
Job Description:
Atomos Space is developing and operating Orbital Transfer Vehicles (OTVs) to perform in-space mobility to satellites, including orbit raising, precision insertion, phasing, relocation and plane change services. We’re not only striving to enable more commercial companies to operate in space dynamically and sustainably: we’re realizing next-gen electric propulsion, from high power solar today, to space nuclear systems tomorrow. Atomos is funded by private investors, as well as commercial and government contracts.
You will join Atomos' Avionics team in designing, building, and testing electronics for integration into our Orbital Transfer Vehicles. This role will engage in full-cycle development of PCBs and electrical systems from architecture definition through spacecraft integration and test. An ideal candidate would have broad experience across Electrical Engineering domains and a desire to work on a variety of technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Architect Avionics subsystems from vehicle and mission requirements.
- Prototype board-level and box-level electronics for flight and ground-based systems.
- Simulate and design analog circuits for spacecraft power generation and distribution.
- Design digital systems to interface control electronics with spacecraft subsystems.
- Write and execute test plans for component and vehicle-level functional test.
- Perform subsystem environmental testing to verify thermal and vacuum performance.
- Coordinate the integration and assembly of Avionics subsystems into spacecraft.
- Co-design with Mechanical, Software, and Systems engineering teams to meet system, mission, and programmatic goals.
Desired Experience:
- Strong electronics fundamentals with a desire to build and test hardware from concept through implementation.
- Familiarity with ECAD tools for circuit schematic design and PCB layout.
- Experience testing electronics with benchtop measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, data acquisition devices).
- Experience with analog circuits and power supply design.
- Understanding of standard communication busses (ethernet, RS232/422/485, USB, SPI, IC2).
- Spacecraft power system design and mission power analysis experience.
- Familiarity with radiation-hardened or radiation-tolerant electronics design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or greater in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5 years of related electrical engineering experience. 3 years if candidate has completed an advanced degree.
